Open Your Home, Save a Life: Become a Foster

Fostering means welcoming a homeless pet into your home temporarily while we work together to find their forever family. For Free the Paws, a 501(c)(3) rescue serving the Dallas–Fort Worth area, fosters are the bridge between shelter and safety. Every time someone chooses to foster, we can pull another dog or cat from overcrowded shelters and give them the second chance they deserve.

You provide the love and stability. We provide the resources and support. Together, we quite literally save lives.

Foster FAQs

Can I foster if I have other pets?

Yes, absolutely. Many of our best fosters already have pets at home. We'll talk through your current animals, personalities, and home setup to help find a good match. We'll also share safe introduction tips so everyone can settle in comfortably.

How long will I have a foster animal?

Foster lengths can vary. Some pets are adopted within a few weeks; others may need a few months. We'll always be honest about what to expect for your specific foster and work with you if your circumstances change. Our goal is to set you and your foster up for success.

What if I fall in love with my foster?

It happens all the time, and we celebrate it! In rescue, we lovingly call it a "foster fail" when a foster family decides to adopt their foster pet. If you fall in love and it's the right fit for you and the animal, we'll guide you through our standard adoption process.
